On June 9, 2009, I observed this ship passing through the MacArthur Lock at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. The entire process of traversing the lock takes about 20-25 minutes, and this video compresses it down to about three and a half minutes. The ship is the Robert S. Pierson, a Great Lakes freighter. As the ship was in the lock, an observer asked a crew member what the ship was carrying, and was told that the cargo was coal. The land you see across the river is Canada. I shot this with my Canon Vixia HF11 AVCHD camcorder.
