2013 Nissan Altima Safety Review, Grande Prairie, AB -

The 2013 Nissan Altima enters its fifth generation this summer with new sheet metal, a revamped cabin and a revised four-cylinder that's more powerful and efficient. Despite a full exterior redesign, the midsize sedan retains its predecessor's 109.3-inch wheelbase, while the front and rear tracks grow by 1.4 inches. A new grille and projector-style headlamps lend a more imposing face, with LED taillamps standard on uplevel models. Nissan also is expanding the Altima range with seven trim levels for 2013 — 2.5, 2.5 S, 2.5 SV and 2.5 SL, as well as 3.5 S, 3.5 SV and 3.5 SL. The four-cylinder models get either 16-inch steel wheels or 17-inch alloy rims, while the six-cylinder models come with 18-inch alloys. Nissan has thoroughly overhauled the Altima's cabin, adopting a new articulated seat design, available in cloth or leather, as well as a new advanced Drive-Assist Display. A NissanConnect system enables smartphone connectivity with Web access and hands-free text message integration. Available safety technologies include Blind Spot Warning, Lane Departure Warning and Moving Object Detection, all bundled in an optional Technology package, along with NissanConnect with Navigation. In addition to the Tech package (available on the Altima SL), options are limited to a rear spoiler, remote start and Bose premium audio, as well as two other packages — a Navigation package (SV) and a Convenience package (2.5 SV only). The top competitors for the Altima are: Kia Optima, Hyundai ...
